Dartmoor Walking Routes

The Church House Inn to Spitchwick
Please use these instructions as a guide. Consider the weather forecast, your clothing and footwear before you set off and whether the route is suited to your personal walking ability.

You leave the main entrance of the pub. Cross straight over the cross roads keeping the white house with blue trims on your left, continue up the hill. Turn left at the T junction; you will see a footpath on your right about 20 meters down this road. Go through the gate and follow this footpath down through the fields with the River Dart appearing in the distance on your left. Continue down the footpath, descending under the canopy of trees, keeping the river to your left. When you reach the road, turn left and walk over the bridge.

Turn left again and follow the footpath underneath the bridge with the river now on your right hand side. When you get to an opening, walk down a relatively steep bank. You will come across a large grassy area with the river gently meandering and deep enough for a swim if you’re feeling brave! A picturesque spot to spend some time in tranquil and beautiful surroundings.
